Introduction to the Zentangle Method
Join Certified Zentangle® teacher Donna Scharding for a morning of creativity and relaxation through structured pattern drawing! This is an introductory session where all supplies will be provided. No formal art training is required; however, a sense of curiosity, an open mind and appreciation will enhance your experience. As you practice this method, you may experience increased focus and sense of well-being! Choose from two beginner sessions: Wednesday, August 9 or Saturday, August 19.

Red Flags: How to Spot Scams and Foil Fraudsters

In this special presentation, Senior Justice Advocate Cyndie Carioli will summarize the reasons for this trend and detail the kinds of elder abuses the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office has investigated, prosecuted and is working to prevent.
· Discover what happens behind the scenes to support older adults who have come through the system.
· Learn strategies to prevent further abuses.
· Find out the latest scams plaguing older adults and how to avoid becoming a victim.

Join the library and PublicSource for a special luncheon which will teach you how to think like an investigative reporter. We’ll have two local professionals provide you with the straight dope on accessing hard-to-find info. PublicSource reporters will help you answer: How do I access anything from court records to campaign finance data to professional licenses? How can I learn more about the practices of landlords or business owners? What government records do I have the right to access and how do I get them? Abandoned Pittsburgh with Huck Beard
Rusted skeletons of industrial mills and rail depots line the rivers; churches built in the nineteenth century by devout East European immigrants now stand desanctified and decayed; and structures that once epitomized the pinnacles of science, commerce, and manufacturing are now empty reminders of how Pittsburgh earned its metallic nickname. Join photographer and author Huck Beard for a picture presentation that explores Steel City’s industrial past. His photography project, Abandoned Pittsburgh, documents the Steel City's forgotten industrial and community sites where "beauty in decay" still exists. His pictures ask the question, “Does a building have a soul? And once it is empty of people, does it still have a story to tell?” Refreshments will be served. FREE - Registration is required.
