DINNER FOR A DOLLAR - 5:00-7:00 p.m., Community of Christ, 3472 South Park Road, Bethel Park PA 15102. (We are located between Drake Road and Sunset Dr.) Enjoy a spaghetti dinner, and help your budget too. We will be serving delicious spaghetti, mouth-watering bread and rolls, fresh garden salad, and luscious desserts. We accept donations of $1. per person or $3 per family. All future dinners are held the second Thursday of each month except July and December. We are now accepting used eyeglasses and cases to help those in need.
SOUTH HILLS FRIENDS OF THE MONTOUR TRAIL WORK PARTY – 9:00 a.m., monthly work party held 2nd Saturday of the month, subject to weather conditions. Volunteers will meet at the Brownsville Extension parking area (trail MP 37.5) at 9:00 AM. The January project has not yet been determined. ‘GREAT GATSBY’ THEMED DINNER PARTY FUNDRAISER – 6-11:00 p.m., St Vincent De Paul’s Jozwiak Hall on Grand Blvd. in Monessen, held by The Monessen Community Development Corporation (MCDC).Featuring musical entertainment by the Mark Smith Jazz Trio. Tickets must be purchased in advance either via MCDC’s Facebook event page, or by contacting MCDC via email: Monessencommunitydevelopment@gmail.com, or by phone at 724-212-6159. Tickets cost $35 each. Includes buffet-style dinner, including baked chicken, pasta, roasted potatoes, green beans, salad, and cake. Light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will also be available. Dancing and 1920’s style costumes are encouraged, and games and prizes will be offered. Your ticket also includes one beer or wine drink, and a prize entry. Proceeds MCDC and its 2020 community projects and initiatives.
FOOD SAFETY COURSE FOR VOLUNTEERS – 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 430 W Main Street, Monongahela. Volunteers who help prepare and serve food for their nonprofit organization are encouraged to attend a workshop on food safety offered by Penn State Extension. “Cooking for Crowds: A Volunteer’s Guide to Safe Food Handling” is a condensed, three-hour food safety course developed by Penn State Extension and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture intended to address food safety issues faced by volunteer-based organizations. The cost to attend the course is $25 for an individual, or $50 per organization for up to four participants. It is an additional $5 for each additional participant after four. MEGA BINGO NIGHT – doors open 4:00 p.m., bingo starting at 6:00 p.m., Elizabeth Fire Hall. Thomas Jefferson High School Baseball will host its second annual Mega Bingo Night. Tickets are $40 each and include 12 faces for 20 regular games with a $200 payout per game, (2) 3-ons for 3 Specials with a $500 payout per special, (2) 3-ons for the Jackpot with a $2,000 payout and free dauber. The library is working in partnership with some socially-environmentally conscious members of the community. Come and shop for winter clothes for free! WEST JEFFERSON HILLS HISTORICAL SOCIETY- 1:00 p.m., Community Room of the Jefferson Hills Municipal Building. View “Invented, Engineered & Pioneered In Pittsburgh,” an engaging Rick Sebak documentary about Pittsburgh. The film extols accomplishments of Steel City inventors and innovators throughout the centuries. The audience will learn about the many technological and mechanical wonders first developed in Pittsburgh and hear about the amazing engineering feats, the creative genius and scientific brilliance of Pittsburghers, each of whom left his/her mark on this city and on the world. The afternoon will conclude with coffee, cookies, and conversation. Refreshments provided by Coffee Tree Roasters, an entrepreneurial enterprise of the Pittsburgh area. Society members and community are invited.
