CARING FOR AGING PARENTS COMMUNITY SEMINAR -  The Deacons of Thomas Presbyterian Church are sponsoring a Community Seminar which will be held on March 2nd, from 10-12 at the Christian Life Center at 1068 Linden Road. Eighty-Four PA 15330    WE thought as a community this is a rising problem with young adults having to deal with their aging parents.  Maureen Sirianni, CVT from Country Meadows, has helped people facing this problem of Dementia vs. Alzheimer’s with their loved ones.  Attorney Bowman expresses the importance of a Living Will.   Both have very helpful information to assist in the care of their loved ones.  Maureen and Attorney Bowman will answer questions at the end of the program.

BAY CHAMBER PLAYERS ‘SPRING IS NEAR’ CONCERT - A Musical Tribute to Holocaust Survivor Howard Chandler.  The Bay Chamber Players announce an upcoming concert, "Spring is Near," that promises to be an unforgettable musical journey.  The concert will be held on Sunday, March 3, at 4:00PM at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, located at 4048 Brownsville Road, in Brentwood. This extraordinary event features compositions by Saint- Saens Dauber, Bruch, Boulanger, Beethoven, Massenet and a heartfelt tribute entitled “Holocaust Remembrances” written by Gil Bigenho dedicated to the indomitable spirit of Holocaust survivor Howard Chandler.  All are welcome to attend. PURSE BASH - The North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department Is holding a "All that Glitters

Purse Bash" on Sunday, March 10 from 1:00PM – 3:00PM at the NBV Social Hall located on Broad Avenue.  Some of the purse brands that will be available include Coach and Kate Spade. Tickets are a $40 donation.  Only 200 tickets will be sold and all proceeds will benefit the fire department.  A Chinese Auction , 50/50 raffle, Door prizes, and Surprise Drawings will be held.  A Light Lunch will be served with water, pop and coffee.  You may BYOB if you like. 7TH ANNUAL SUPER GIFT BASKET RAFFLE - West Newton Library will hold their 7th Annual Super Gift Basket Raffle will be held on Sunday March 10, at the Turkeytown VFD, located at 90 Supervisors Drive in West Newton.  Doors open at 11:00AM, and drawings begin at 2:30PM.  Your $20 ticket includes 25 general raffle tickets and a light lunch. Event will end at 4:00PM. There will be two 50/50 raffles, president's choice table and scratch off tickets. Tickets are available at Gary's Chuckwagon Restaurant, S. 2nd St, West Newton and at the Library at 124 N. Water St. in West Newton.  This event helps support the West Newton Library.

SOUTH HILLS COIN CLUB MEETING - Tuesday March 12, at 7:30PM at the Bethel Park municipal building located at 5100 Library Ave. in Bethel Park.  All members and the general public are invited. This month’s program will be on Alexander the Great.  A 50/50 will be offered and children’s prizes to be awarded.  Applications are now being accepted for membership.   For more information call 724-984-6611.

CLOTHES 4 U MINISTRY  - First United Methodist, 200 State Street, Belle Vernon, will be open to the public on Tuesdays March 12th and 26th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.    We are in need of clean gently used clothing for children and men  at this time.  Thank you for helping us help the people of the Mon Valley.  We do not charge for our clothing.   We are strictly donations in and donations out.

CHICKEN & BISCUIT DINNER - Cokeburg Presbyterian Church, located at 100 Washington Street in Cokesburg, PA, will be hosting a Chicken and Biscuits dinner on March 13, from 11:00AM - 6:00PM.  Dinner includes chicken and biscuits, vegetables, mashed potatoes, applesauce, dessert, (coffee or tea eat in only) and popwill be available for $1.  For additional information or questions, please call the church at 724-945-6758.

HAM DINNER - True Vine Anglican Church in Monongahela will be holding a Ham Dinner on Saturday, March 16 from 3:00PM – 7:00PM.   Dinner can be for dine-in or take-out and includes Ham, Potatoes, Veggies, Dessert, Coffee/Tea.  Cost is just $12 for Adults and $6 for kids.   True Vine Anglican Church is located at 700 E. SPAGHETTI DINNER FUNDRAISER - TJHS Marching Band is sponsoring its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser and TJ musical theater celebration on Saturday, March 16 from 3-7 pm. WAFFLE AND PANCAKE BRUNCH FUNDRAISER - for the Mantle House Mission will be held on Sunday, March 17 from 11:00AM to 2:00PM.  The brunch will take place at the West Newton Lions Fieldhouse, located at 507 Pittsburgh St. in West Newton.   Menu will consist of waffles, waffle stix or pancakes with scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit salad and choice of beverage.  There will be a 50/50 raffle and basket sales will also be held.   Cost is $10 for Adults and $5 for children age 3 -10. 17TH ‘EGG EGGSTRAVAGANZA’  - St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church Social Hall, located at 201 E. Main Street in Uniontown, on Sunday, March 17,  from 12:00 noon – 4PM.  Egg artists display, demonstrate, and sell decorated eggs, Easter items  ( embroidered basket covers, lamb butter molds, decorated candles), parish cookbook, and crafts for purchase, children’s Easter theme activities, explanation of traditional Easter foods for basket blessing, Lenten lunch menu, baked goods (including long rolls and more) workshop on making pysanky, raffles and basket raffles, and more. EGG HUNT - Crossroads Ministries in Finleyville will be holding an Egg Hunt on March 23.  This FREE family event will be a fun afternoon filled with many activities for everyone!  All participants will receive their free tickets for the carnival prizes at the registration table. This family event will include a photo booth, carnival games and snacks, and lots of raffle prizes! The Egg Hunt will begin approximately 45 minutes past the hour.  This event will take place rain or shine! ‘COOKIE CRAWL’ FUNDRAISER EVENT - West Jefferson Hills Historical Society will host an Ethnic Heritage Cookie Crawl fundraiser on Saturday, March 23, at the Jefferson Hills Municipal Building. Proceeds from the event will help to manage and care for local cultural materials in the WJHHS Archive. Thirteen different cookie varieties, representing an assortment of ethnicities of the Western Pennsylvania area, will be offered. Cultures represented range from Native American to European to South Asian to old-fashioned American favorites. Cookies will be sold in bags of 4 for $5 or a dozen for $12. A special sampler box of all 13 cookies will also be on sale for $12. Sampler and single-flavor dozen boxes must be pre-ordered and will not be available for sale at the Cookie Crawl, although bags of 4 cookies will be available that day.  The Cookie Crawl will be held in the Community Rooms of the Jefferson Hills Municipal Building, 925 Old Clairton Road, Jefferson Hills, PA between 12:00 noon and 3:00 P.M. Order forms are available at the Jefferson Hills and Pleasant Hills libraries and at www.westjeffersonhillshistoricalsociety.org. GUEST SPEAKER ON ANCIENT COINS - Peters Creek Historical Society welcomes Greg McGee, ancient coin dealer and shop owner in Dormont as their guest speaker on Monday, March 25, at 7:30PM.  The program will be held at Wrights United Methodist Church, 788 Venetia Road, in Venetia.  McGee’s talk will focus on the ancient coinage of Alexander the Great, whose coins were principally made to pay soldiers, levies, taxes and later protection money to barbarians.  Struck in silver and gold in huge quantities, an impressive amount of these ancient artifacts have survived in good condition over the course of 2,300 years.  Attend this program to learn about the numismatic history of Alexander the Great coins and see one of them first hand.  For more information on the society, the Enoch Wright House and cabin,  visit the website: www.peterscreekhistoricalsociety.org
