CharRotary Sept 2017

The Charleroi Rotary Club has had a busy spring and summer. On April 23, 2017 the club hosted “An Afternoon of Pasta, Wine, and Chocolate” at the Ripepi Winery in Carroll Township.

Rotary President's pins were exchanged at a recent meeting of the Charleroi Rotary Club. Pictured are outgoing President Donna Ramusivich, District 7330 Governor Steve Arnowitz, and incoming President Todd Pappasergi.

Owner Rich Ripepi paired different types of chocolates with selected wines. The pairing session was preceded by a tour of the winery and vineyard, appetizers, and a pasta dinner. Members of the Rotary Club donated the pasta, salad, appetizers, and chocolate. Proceeds from the dinner will be used to fund club programs for the 2017-2018 Rotary year.

Guest speakers covered a variety of topics at the monthly Tri Club meetings. Topics discussed were Bipolar Disorder; Breathe PA.; and the Salvation Army.

In student news, Charleroi High School graduate Alexis Weber was awarded the Rotary Club’s annual scholarship in the amount of $500. Alexis was honored by club members at the regular meeting held on July 19, 2017. She plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and will major in Middle School Education. Layla Koon was once again chosen as one of the winners in the Rotary Peace Art Card contest. This contest is open to all middle school students in District 7330. Layla’s work was recognized at the District Conference in June, and she will be honored at an upcoming meeting.

Finally, the Rotary year concluded with the exchange of pins between the incoming and outgoing Presidents. Outgoing President Donna Ramusivich thanked all of the members for a good year and for the successful fundraisers that had taken place. Incoming President Todd Pappasergi said that he wants to build membership and hopes to bring about more involvement for the club with the Charleroi Area School District by supporting programs such as Harvest Bounty. The exchange of pins and installation ceremony was performed by club member and incoming 7330 District Governor Steve Arnowitz.

The Charleroi Rotary Club meets each Wednesday at 12:05 in the Back Porch Restaurant’s Side Door Lounge in Lower Speers. For membership or program information, please contact Club Secretary John Helfenstein at 724-494-3195.
