The Washington County, Pennsylvania event will host the 54-hole national junior golf tournament, July 8-11, 2019. The field will consist of 96 boys and girls (ages 12-19) from around the world.
Southpointe Golf Club is a privately owned 18-hole championship golf course designed by Arthur Hills, ASGCA. From 2010-2013, Southpointe Golf Club hosted the Mylan Classic, which was a PGA TOUR sanctioned event on the Web.com Tour. Built and open to membership in June of 1994, the 18-hole course features 6,856 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 72.9 and it has a slope rating of 135.
The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. AJGA alumni include Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Tiger Woods, Paula Creamer, Ariya Jutanugarn, Cristie Kerr, Stacy Lewis, Brittany Lincicome, Anna Nordqvist, Inbee Park and Lexi Thompson.
“The AJGA is excited to partner with DICK’S Sporting Goods to bring a junior tournament to Washington County,” said Patrick Plank, Northeast Regional Director of the AJGA. “Southpointe Golf Club is a fantastic venue that will be a great test for our talented junior golfers pursuing a college scholarship.”
The tournament begins like a PGA TOUR or LPGA Tour event with the 18-hole PNC Bank Qualifier held on Sunday, July 7. This gives players the opportunity to “play their way in” to the main tournament. Monday will feature the official practice round and the Horizon Properties Group Junior-Am fundraising tournament. The tournament will begin Tuesday with the first round and run through Thursday. An awards ceremony will follow the final round.
Net proceeds from the tournament will be divided equally between the AJGA’s Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant, a financial assistance program; and the DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation.
The event is free and open to the public. Spectators are encouraged to attend the event and see the next generation of PGA TOUR and LPGA Tour stars. Southpointe Golf Club is located at 360 Southpointe Boulevard, Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.
