New Eagle Borough Council held its monthly meeting June 13, rescheduled from the June 6 meeting, when only two Council members were present, prompting Council to cancel the meeting because of a lack of quorum.

Council discussed the use of two athletic fields in New Eagle by Ringgold organizations and the lack of legal cooperation from both groups before deciding to vote to terminate the leases with both organizations.

The lease with Ringgold Youth Athletic Association for the use of the Jimmy Rice Memorial Ballfield was being held up, according to New Eagle Borough Solicitor Tim Berggren, who has been attempting to contact the athletic association to formalize the lease. Because the organization is now in default on the lease, Council voted to terminate the lease between New Eagle and Ringgold Youth Athletic Association. The field is now open to residents of New Eagle.

Council also voted to terminate the lease for the Roosevelt Athletic Field with Ringgold Youth Soccer Association. The athletic organization has not paid for its lease in 2016 or 2017, according to Council, who remarked that the costs of maintenance and utilities at the field are $3,000 annually.
