The Donora Historical Society and Smog Museum recently launched a Facebook page so that people interested in what we are doing can follow us.
If you are one of those people, please find us and like us. All of our upcoming presentations and events will be announced here, along with our website and various newspapers.
Cement City Home and Walking Tour Brochures Available
Thanks to a grant by the Washington County Tourism Promotion Agency, brochures were created to promote our Cement City Home and Walking Tours. Printed by Badzik’s Printing in Donora, they give a brief overview of Donora’s best kept secret: Cement City – a National Historic District, as well as the logistics of what takes place during the afternoon of one of our Home and Walking Tours.
Our next tour is scheduled for Sunday, October 2 at 1 p.m. The Steelers play a night game on this date. This tour is already 70% full, so if you have any interest, you should RSVP by phone or email ASAP. If you have any questions about Cement City or one of our Home and Walking Tours, please consult our website and click the “Cement City” tab or stop by the Smog Museum and pick up a freshly minted brochure.
Game Films – Belle Vernon Football and Basketball
Among the many items that the Donora Historical Society has in its collection are over 90 reels of football and basketball game film of high school teams from all over the Mon Valley from 1963 to 1979. They are original 16mm films that are in the process of being converted to DVD. We are attempting to gauge interest on who might be interested in having these films converted and purchase copies either by individual player, team or fan.
Belle Vernon High School was formed in 1965 and has at least one football game for the following seasons: '65-'66, '66-'67, '67-'68, and '68-'69. Rostraver has at least one football game for the following seasons: '63-'64 and '64-'65. There is also one basketball game between Monongahela and Belle Vernon High School from 19'66, their inaugural season.
If you have any interest or have questions on exactly which games we have, please consult the Historical Society by voice mail or email listed below, or see the full list of games on the website under the “Game Films” tab.
