The members of the Charleroi Rotary Club have continued to experience a high degree of involvement in Rotary International functions, district level activities, and club business since the end of September.

On September 30, 2015 Steve and Colleen Arnowitz attended a luncheon hosted by the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh. The guests were Rotary International President Ravi Ravindran and his wife. President Ravi spoke about his experiences at all levels with Rotary and the importance of contributing to the Rotary Foundation.

October brought the first of the Charleroi Rotary Club’s “Student of the Month” presentations. Brittany Claybaugh was recognized for October. She is a senior at Charleroi High School, a member of the Interact club (among other groups), and has participated in many activities during high school. Brittany plans to further her education upon graduation.

A professional networking mixer for clubs in the Mon Valley area was held on Thursday, October 8th at Monongahela Valley Hospital’s Education and Conference center. The featured film was “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and the refreshments included drinks, movie snacks, and crackers and cheese.

The Rotary Foundation celebration was held on Saturday, October 24th at the Park Inn in Uniontown. Proceeds from this event benefit projects carried out through Rotary International. This year’s theme was “Celebrity Chefs.” Rotarian member chefs and professional chefs provided many culinary treats for those in attendance.

On October 28th, Ms. Diann Donaldson, president and owner of Reliant Business Solutions, presented a program on the new security measures that are being employed in debit and credit cards. She explained that transferring from non-chip cards to cards with imbedded chips is being completed gradually due to the time and expense involved in switching out the software used to read the cards. At the conclusion of her presentation, President Mike Rupert announced that Diann has been invited to become a member of the Charleroi Rotary Club.

As a reminder, the Charleroi Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at the Back Porch restaurant in Lower Speers. Meetings begin at 12:05 and are held in the Side Door Lounge. For membership or program information, please contact Mike Rupert at 412-422-4202 or John Helfenstein at 724-494-3195.
