Employees at Monongahela Valley Hospital collected 87 pounds — more than seven cases — of trial size items ranging from toothbrushes and shampoo to deodorant and hygiene items for two emergency shelters for local women and children.

MVH Director of Food and Nutrition Services Candice Douglas, who organized the collection, presented the donation to Lyndsay Burrik, director of the Welcome Home Shelter in Greensburg and representing the Washington Family Shelter in Washington, Pa. Mrs. Douglas was inspired to organize the event in memory of a friend who years ago narrowly escaped an abusive spouse with nothing but her nightclothes and turned to a women’s shelter. Mrs. Burrik said the shelter relies on donations of personal hygiene items for its clients and that local churches and civic groups have been very generous.
