A movie theatre popcorn paddleboard entry manned by Nolace Petrosky earned a 2nd prize of $100. Several honorable mention entries received gift certificates to Randall’s Restaurant and Vinoski’s Winery.
The Collinsburg VFD Water Rescue Unit was on hand to provide safety for the event, performed training demonstrations, and gave rides for the spectators. Get a Hobby from Uniontown showed the crowd various remote control boats and a seaplane in action on the water.
A 600 Lucky Duck Derby was held with winners receiving $600 in cash prizes. The Great Company Duck Race returned, where 40 local businesses sponsored and dressed up super sized rubber ducks for competition. Randall’s Restaurant won for “Best in Show” and the Community Life duck won 1st place in the race competition.
The Kids Zone returned this year for kids age 12 and under with activities from Jessica Mascara of Live, Laugh, Play, and Learn and Rotary members. This area provided games, crafts, bingo, marshmallow golf, temporary tattoos and more. The Rotary hosted an “Art Pier” where art competitions occurred for the kids throughout the day and were entertained by Puddles the Duck from All Dry Services. All children’s activities were free of charge.
Food vendors were on hand, along with music by DJ Jerry J., raffles, sponsor tents and more. Co-chairs Deb Keefer and Tom Yoder and the Regatta committee have expressed their appreciation for an absolutely beautiful day and overwhelming support for this major fundraising effort.
“In addition to all of the generous sponsors, we also want to thank the Westmoreland County Parks, the Pa. Fish and Game Commission, the Belle Vernon High School Interact Club and the Collinsburg VFD Water Rescue Team for their partnership and assistance with the event,” said Keefer.
The Belle Vernon Rotary Club funds several scholarships to Belle Vernon and Frazier students, and supports food banks, veteran’s projects, beautification efforts, families in need and more. Last year’s proceeds from the Regatta were allocated to emotional support programs at BVA and Frazier school districts.
