By Jill Runfola

On Saturday, May 11, 2019, dog owners paraded their furry friends through downtown Monongahela during the annual ‘Pooch Parade.’ This marked the 11th year for the fun event.

National Guard Specialist Lindsay Trychta (at left), and dog ‘Panzer’, along with Corrina Withrow, MARC Chairperson (right) await the start of the parade.

The Pooch Parade was hosted by the Monongahela Area Revitalization Corp. (MARCRegistration began at 10:00 AM the parade started at 11:00 AM. A pooch-inspired party took place at Chess Park, and prizes were awarded in many categories. 38 dogs in all were registered and each received a treat bag. Festivities included dog-related vendors and exhibits, food booths, and a basket auction.

The Pooch Parade is held annually in memory of Susan Withers, who started the event 11 years ago to celebrate her love of dogs and to bring a family event to the Mon Valley.
