For the first time in the history of Belle Vernon and the Mon River Town Consortium, there will be an invasion of scarecrows lined up inside the newly renovated North Belle Vernon Community Bank Park & Outdoor Recreation Center for a one-of-a-kind scarecrow festival on Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 6 - 10 p.m. The park is located on Graham Street.
The Mon River Town Program awarded the North Belle Vernon Borough a $500 grant for this unique Scarecrow Festival in the Park project that will include live entertainment, food and craft vendors, games for children, and will culminate with an outdoor nighttime movie featuring the most beloved scarecrow of all time - “The Wizard of Oz.”
Individuals, families, businesses, civic organizations and schools are all invited to participate in this unique scarecrow competition by creating their own one-of-a-kind scarecrow, which will be entered into a first-ever scarecrow beauty pageant. Scarecrows will remain on display throughout the month of October for a fun and festive atmosphere.
The winner will win a $100 cash prize and will be voted on by attendees at the Festival.
This first Scarecrow Festival in the Park is intended to celebrate and promote our Mid Mon Valley river towns while bringing visitors, local residents, and businesses together.
Further details, registration and rules for the scarecrow beauty pageant can be found on the website, www.nbvpark.com, or contact Melanie Stringhill Patterson for more information at 724-331-3654.
