The Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU) is pleased to announce that board president Ms. Shauna D'Alessandro has been named to receive the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) Timothy M. Allwein Advocacy Award.

Established in 2011, the Timothy M. Allwein Advocacy Award is presented annually to an individual school director or an entire school board and recognizes outstanding leadership in legislative advocacy efforts on behalf of public education.
Ms. D'Alessandro has been a member of the West Jefferson Hills School Board since 2003. She has been a member of the AIU's Board of Directors since 2007 and currently serves as president. She was elected vice president from 2010 to 2012. From 2007 to 2010, Ms. D'Alessandro was a member of the South Hills Area School District Association (SHASDA) and served as president of the board from 2009 to 2010. She is also a graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh Class XXVI.
Since 2008, she has served Allegheny County as PSBA's Region 14 Director and is a member of the PSBA board. Ms. D'Alessandro is currently chair of PSBA's Audit Committee, is a co-chair of the PSBA Region Director Coordinating Council, and has earned PSBA's Master Board Member Accreditation.
