The world comes to Washington, Pennsylvania August 9-15 for the 2019 DICK’S Sporting Goods PONY League World Series (DSGPLWS). All games will take place at historic Lew Hays PONY Field in Washington Park. This year marks the tournament’s 68th year.
The 2019 bracket includes 10 teams, representing the United State and four other countries from around the world. Six of the 10 teams will be US domestic squads, including the champions of PONY’s North, South, East and West Zones along with the Host Area champion from the Greater Pittsburgh region and host Washington County, PA. The international teams will represent PONY’s Asia-Pacific, European, Mexican and Caribbean Zones.
In addition to the Host team, two berths have been clinched for the 2019 DSGPLWS. London, United Kingdom and Guasave, Mexico won their Zone championships and join Washington County, PA as the first three teams in the tournament. The other seven squads will be determined from early July through the first weekend in August.
Not only does the DSGPLWS showcase some of the best young baseball talent from around the world, but events take place every day, making it a world-class family event. There is fun for the whole family. Events on the schedule include Fan Fest, a Home Run Derby, Fastest Runner Contest, Pittsburgh Pirates Day, the Pirate Parrot and Pirates Pierogies mascots, Military and First Responder Appreciation Night, and more. For those who can’t make it in person to Lew Hays PONY Field, the World Series has gone all-access, all tournament long. The live video broadcast of all games can be found on PLWS.org, and MLB.com. WJPA Radio will have live coverage on 1450-AM and at wjpa.com. Six games, five preliminaries and the Championship Game, will be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet, the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Penguins.
