When Thomas Jefferson High School students Emma Martinis and Olivia Supp met with the West Jefferson Hills School Board in late January, they had a goal in mind.

The TJ juniors had been nominated for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Student of the Year program and their goal was, for their team “Team 4 THE CURE,” to raise $30,000 from early February until the April 1 deadline, a period of just seven weeks.

Darla Holmes is program coordinator for MPACT – Monessen Positive Action Community Team – an afterschool program for Monessen Middle School students that was implemented early in 2021.  The program is intended to improve student behavior and academic motivation, but Holmes figured the students needed a little more: so Sunday Fundays have been created at Christian Life Ministries Church in Monessen.

To build a better tomorrow that tackles challenges, pursues bold ideas, and opens the door to new possibilities for students, Remake Learning has awarded Clairton City School District funds from the second phase of Moonshot Grants.  These grants were awarded to nine schools and educational nonprofits in southwestern Pennsylvania and north-central West Virginia.

The Community College of Allegheny County continues to expand its evening and weekend class offerings to give students the benefit of a flexible schedule that fits with their lifestyle. Ideal for individuals who have jobs or juggle busy family routines, the classes enable students to further their educational goals on their own time and in the ways that best suit their needs.
