September was "Hunger Action Month" in the United States. The Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank asked for Clairton School District help to raise awareness to the needs of tens of thousands of people in our area in need of support.

September 4th was national "Going Orange Day" and students and staff were encouraged to wear orange. Additionally the elementary school did a 3-day canned food drive to stay locally and the students brought in over 450 cans; the top two winning rooms received a cupcake party. Both winners were from 1st grade - Mrs. Biros' and Mrs. Schweitzer's classrooms.
