The Community College of Allegheny County will offer spring intersession courses at its South campus from December 19, 2017 to January 12, 2018.

The four-week courses between the fall and spring semesters will enable students to stay on track with their goals by affording them the opportunity to take foundation classes that apply to many degrees, as well as other classes of interest. The initiative will also provide opportunities for Post 9/11 GI Bill recipients to continue receiving their monthly housing allowance while furthering their degree during the break.

Classes offered at Allegheny Campus include: Introduction to Accounting, English Composition 2, Introduction to Sociology, Oral Communication, History of Pittsburgh: Past, Present and Future, and Academic and Personal Development. The classes offered at South Campus include: Introduction to Theatre, Oral Communication, Introduction to Music and Introduction to Sociology.

Typically, veteran students lose their housing allowance during the break between semesters, which can have a significant impact on a family’s finances, said Bridgett Elliott Golman, Dean of Student Development, Allegheny Campus. In addition to current veteran and nonveteran students, the program is open to prospective students, as well as students who are home on break from other universities.

“This is a great opportunity for all students,” said Elliott Golman. “These courses are not only a smart way for any eligible student to get a head start on the spring semester, but veterans who are enrolled and are receiving benefits will continue to receive their housing allowance through the break.”
