New Eagle resident, Elizabeth Cichy, has learned firsthand the downside to living in a community with no zoning laws, as a neighbor to her property at 910 Marion Street has become a nuisance, according to Cichy, who registered a complaint with the New Eagle Council at its April 5 monthly meeting.

Cichy, who has lived in New Eagle for 50 years, says she has never had problems with neighbors until her current neighbor’s son began a demolition business.

Cichy stated that the business generates noise and filth with trucks and welding and has become a nuisance to the neighborhood. The noise starts at 7:00 in the morning, according to Cichy.

Council explained that since New Eagle doesn’t have zoning ordinances, operating a business in the borough is permissible.

Council did offer for the Code Enforcement Officer to check that that business owner is not breaking any sanitation codes.

Also at the meeting, Council voted to purchase a new F-550 truck to replace the borough’s current truck, which has multiple repair issues.

The new truck will be purchased through Costars, a cooperative purchasing program in Pennsylvania, at a discounted price of $80,000 from Woltz and Wind Ford, and will include a plow and spreader.

The truck will be purchased with money from the borough’s Capital Projects Fund.

The current truck was obtained through a grant in 2008 at no cost to the borough and will be sold through Municibid, an on-line government auction site. The borough expects to make $20,000 - $30,000 for the truck, which will help offset the cost of the new truck.

In other business, the Street Department has repaired a catch basin, has been working on potholes, has prepared a list of roads that need to be paved, and has performed vehicle maintenance.
