South Park held their regular Board of Supervisor’s meeting on Sept. 14, at 7 p.m.

“Penny Day” for the Montour Trail

The Board approved a land development agreement with several South Park residents on Amanda Ave. to extend a sanitary sewer to allow the construction of a new house. A non-exclusive license agreement was also approved for the same residents to have their pool located within the sanitary sewer easement.

The refund of a cash bond in the amount of $630, posted to guarantee the completion of the grading permit activities located at 937 Hurl Dr., was approved.

George Smith’s resignation from the Sewer Authority was ratified. His last day was August 1. Bruce Beaver will fill the vacancy on the Bethel Park Municipal Authority. His term will expire on the first Monday of the year 2019.

Due to the renovations underway at South Park Middle School, the Hold Harmless agreement by and between the Township of South Park and South Park School District with regard to the Recreational Basketball Program at the middle school was approved.

A number of training requests were approved for several of South Park’s police officers.

As the meeting came to a close, one of the supervisors mentioned “Penny Day” for the Montour Trail and invited David Oyler, who is a board member of the Montour Trail Council as well as secretary and treasurer of the South Hills Friends for the Montour Trail, to speak about the fundraiser.

Penny Day is held on the second Saturday of October every year, and the purpose of it is to raise money for materials needed to maintain the trail. This year, Penny Day lands on Saturday, Oct 10 and the South Hills Friends will be receiving donations from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at three locations throughout the South Hills section of the trail. Those three locations along the trail will be at the Brownsville Rd. Extension, Gill Hall Rd., and at the Clairton trail head.

The Bethel Park and Peter’s Township Friends of the Montour Trail will also be holding their Penny Day on October 10.
