As the meeting came to a close, one of the supervisors mentioned “Penny Day” for the Montour Trail and invited David Oyler, who is a board member of the Montour Trail Council as well as secretary and treasurer of the South Hills Friends for the Montour Trail, to speak about the fundraiser.
Penny Day is held on the second Saturday of October every year, and the purpose of it is to raise money for materials needed to maintain the trail. This year, Penny Day lands on Saturday, Oct 10 and the South Hills Friends will be receiving donations from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at three locations throughout the South Hills section of the trail. Those three locations along the trail will be at the Brownsville Rd. Extension, Gill Hall Rd., and at the Clairton trail head.
The Bethel Park and Peter’s Township Friends of the Montour Trail will also be holding their Penny Day on October 10.
