The Peters Township Tennis Center has had its share of problems in the last several years including loss of staff and its bubble roof collapse. In an effort to improve the facility and the revenue it generates, Peters Township Council at its September 14 meeting approved hiring a full-time director. As well, the township will officially take over operation of the center on a year-round basis.
Up to now, the Tennis Center has been operated by the Peters Township Tennis Association from April through September, while the township took over management from September through March. Part of the problem the facility has faced was loss of its tennis pros, and Council is hoping the hiring of a full-time director will help turn the center around.
Township Manager Michael Silvestri said that the salary range for the director position will be from $37,000 to $55,000 per year. He added that in order for the Tennis Center to improve, the plan is for it to actively offer more lessons and clinics.
In other business, Council:
Approved a request by Arthur Schwotzer to turn two lots on Center Church Road totaling 20 acres into three lots.
Approved the final plan of the Anthony Farms development, Phase 3B for the Peters Township Land Company.
Approved several sign requests: one advertising the Peters Township Class of 1973-1977 Reunion for 10 signs to be placed in heavy traffic areas and the other for the Peters Township High School Cheerleaders Boosters Association to promote their 2015 Pancake Breakfast.
Approved an amendment to the township code of ordinances regulating flood plains.
