The Carroll Township Board of Supervisors approved a resolution at the October 3 monthly meeting to purchase a property on Fourth Street that formerly served as a care facility.
The property will be purchased for $270,000, with $250,000 of the price to be covered by grant money. The Supervisors opted to purchase an existing structure that will then be renovated to include borough offices instead of a new building as a cost-effective measure.
The Board also announced at the meeting that the township will not participate in the Mid-Mon Valley Council of Governments (COG), explaining that membership in the organization would cost the township $4,000 over the next four years, with no benefits from joining at this time.
In other business, the Board approved a resolution in support of Donora Public Library’s application for Local Share Account (LSA) funding to be used to add another building at the library for storing historical material.
The LSA funding is money made available to communities in Washington County through the Gaming Act. The funds, awarded through grants, may be used for economic development, job training, community improvement, and public interest projects.
