After a one-year absence, the J. R. Taylor Memorial 5K, on the Montour Trail’s Bethel Branch, is back for 2016. The 5K run will start at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 4.

Runners start just south of the J. R. Taylor Bridge over Clifton Road in Bethel Park and speed along the flat, smooth crushed limestone course to a turnaround point shortly before the hill to Brush Run Road in Peters Township. They then return north and cross the bridge to the finish. The top three male and female finishers will win gift certificates from Fleet Feet.

A 2-mile walk will start at 8:35, crossing the bridge in the other direction. Recreational walkers will have the chance to learn about the trail’s history and scenery from members of the Montour Trail board.

Registration ($25) is available at www.montourtrail.org or www.runsignup.com. Race-day parking and registration are at Washington Elementary School near the intersection of Clifton and McMurray Roads. Proceeds benefit the Bethel Branch of the trail. Sponsors include Brentwood Bank, Century Steel Erectors, First Niagara Bank, KOB Solutions, Fleet Feet, and Al’s Café.
