The Athene Club sponsored the annual Senior Girls Tea for the girls graduating this year from Charleroi Area High School. The event was held at the Monongahela Valley Country Club on Friday, April 15, 2016 at noon.

The invocation was said by Joan McCloskey and the Pledge of Allegiance by Gerry Byron and the Blub Collect by Elizabeth Roberts.

President Sylvia Whiten welcomed the senior girls, their principal, Dr. Patty Mason, and the girls’ sponsors, Mrs. Laura Piecknick and Ms. Stacie Cifrielok.

Before the tea, President Whiten gave the history of the Athene Club. She also thanked the hostess committee chairman, Bonnie Daylong with her committee, Mary Lou Mudrick, Linda Gray, Alix Garlitz and Jane Dorincz.

Program chairman Judy Rager introduced the guest speaker, Ms. Johnna Pro. Johnna Pro is a 1982 graduate of Charleroi High School. She earned a degree in journalism and public relations from the University of Pennsylvania. She began her professional career teaching English at Westmoreland Community College, and working as a freelance writer for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Johnna received top awards at the local, state and national levels and was the author of “All Nine Alive,” a book that told the story of the Quecreek Mine disaster. In 2005, she left the paper and started a career in government serve and politics. Last year Johnna accepted a position as Regional Director for the state’s Department of Community and Economic Development. Johnna gave a very informative presentation, with her topic being ‘The ABCs and 123s: Lessons of Life.’

After the presentation, President Whiten gave her closing remarks. The president of the senior class thanked the members of the Athene Club for a very enjoyable afternoon.
