Walking can do more than just contribute to a healthier lifestyle. It can help fight cancer.
Join fellow Peters Township residents on May 14 for the annual Relay For Life of Peters Township. The event begins at 11 a.m. at Peters Township Middle School, 625 East McMurray Road, and ends at 11 p.m. You can join the walking teams on the track or just enjoy a day of family-style fun with live music, games and activities offered by Relay For Life teams, as well as a wide variety of hot and cold foods.
Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will not be forgotten, that those battling cancer will be supported and that one day cancer will be eliminated. Throughout the year and through the event, teams raise money to support the American Cancer Society’s research, advocacy and patient service programs.
This year’s theme is ‘Color My World Cancer-Free.’ Teams will decorate their respective sites around the track reflecting the theme, selecting a color associated with a certain type of cancer.
A free dinner for all cancer survivors in Peters Township will be held at 6 p.m. in the middle school cafeteria. Registration will be held at the school on the day of the event or a registration forms can be requested by calling the American Cancer Society office at 724-222-6911.
The Luminaria Ceremony, which honors survivors and those who lost their battle with the disease, begins at 9 p.m. Luminaries may be purchased during the Relay For Life event or by calling the American Cancer Society office.
