The 119th anniversary of the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department was marked recently by an officer installation banquet.

Guest of Honor Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner Tim Solobay addressed the audience and later installed the 2016 officers. Those installed were: Fire Chief John E. Garber; 1st Asst. Chief Shelby Ferguson II; 2nd Asst. Chief Kurt Parshall; Captain Christopher Ceccarelli; 1st Lieutenant Jeff Antal; 2nd Lieutenant Mike Ceccarelli; and Safety Officers Anthony Ross and Charles Horan. Administrative officers were: President Anthony Ross; Vice President Jared Ebbitt; Financial Secretary Mike Wassilchalk Jr.; Recording Secretary/Treasurer Jeff Antal; and Trustees Dennis Peters and Barb Peters. Auxiliary officers were: President Kim Garber; Vice President Maggie Ebbitt; Secretary Michele Horan; and Treasurer Kelly Ceccarelli.
In his address, Commissioner Solobay, who also serves as the Asst. Fire Chief in Canonsburg, commended the Department on 119 years of continuous service to North Belle Vernon and our surrounding communities. Solobay also echoed the plight of most of our public services, especially the volunteers who face ever increasing qualifications, shrinking membership and the constant need for fundraising efforts to maintain the level of service expected by our residents. Chief Garber spoke of his vision for the future of the department and praised the members for their dedicated service.
