Elizabeth Forward Middle School celebrated Veterans Day with a tribute to local veterans and a welcome by Principal Trish Martell.
Guest speaker Captain Joseph Ladisic Commander Company B, 1st Battalion 110th Infantry, US Army spoke on the history of Armistice Day which is now known as Veterans Day. |
The ceremony began with a posting of colors by veterans of the Blaine Hill VFW Post 7632 and American Legion Post 553. The 8th grade chorus performed ‘The Star Spangled Banner.’ Magisterial District Judge Beth Scaglene Mills explained the duties of her judicial office and stated her office's support for all veterans. The 7th and 8th grade symphonic band performed 'Let Freedom Ring’ and Jordyn White recited the poem ‘A Soldier’ by Angela Goodwin. The 7th and 8th grade string orchestra next performed 'Marine Hymn Fantasy.'
Guest speaker Captain Joseph Ladisic Commander Company B, 1st Battalion 110th Infantry, spoke on the origin and meaning of Armistice Day, the writing of the Star Spangled Banner, and the freedoms of our country. The ‘Battle Hymn of the Republic’ was performed by the 7th and 8th Grade Chorus and the Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest Winners were announced. Raphael Delao read the History of Taps and Natalie Brogan and Daniel Semcoski performed Taps.
Following the ceremony, veterans and guests retired to the Library for refreshments and conversation.
