In July 2014, Matthew Pastorik, 33, of South Park, was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, a life-threatening brain tumor. Husband of Janell and father of two kids, ages 4 and 6, he began chemo and radiation shortly after diagnosis.
Matt completed treatment in September 2015 and on October 2, Matt had a routine CT scan with devastating results. A new tumor had formed in the center of his brain against the spinal ventricle during the short period of time since his treatment had ended. His doctors at UPMC have no further treatments to offer. He was referred to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
Matt and Janell flew to Boston. He was able to enroll in a clinical trial conducted by Dana-Farber, a Phase 2 study for recurrent glioblastomas. He is currently flying to Boston every Monday for this treatment.
