Nonprofit organization asks for donations of winter clothing
South Hills Interfaith Ministries (SHIM) will hold its annual coat drive to provide winter clothing for community members in need. With winter quickly approaching, SHIM hopes to collect more than 500 coats of all sizes. South Hills residents are asked to donate their gently used coats, mittens, scarves, boots, hats and more to SHIM now through Oct. 30.
“Every year we strive to collect hundreds of coats for our community members in need,” said Jim Guffey, executive director, SHIM. “We are asking for donations of winter items in all sizes, especially children’s coats and boots, so we can help keep all of our local beneficiaries warm throughout the cold months ahead of us.”
SHIM’s coat drive has been hosted annually for more than ten years, with each year growing in donations and beneficiaries. During last year’s effort, SHIM distributed more than 500 coats, with half of those going to children. This year, SHIM hopes to exceed that number and collect even more child-sized jackets, boots and other winter necessities.
Donations will be accepted now through Oct. 30, Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Items can be dropped off at SHIM at 5301 Park Ave., Bethel Park, PA, 15102. The coats will be distributed Oct. 14 at Prospect Park and Nov. 5, 6 and 19, 20 at SHIM’s pantries in Bethel Park.
