Prepare now for Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling’s upcoming Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection, being held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Westmoreland County Community College, 145 Pavilion Lane, Parking Lot B, Youngwood, PA 15697, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All oil-based and alkyd paints, lacquers, mineral spirits, thinners, and other solvents will be accepted. Chemicals such as not-quite-empty aerosol cans, automotive fluids, degreasers, drain cleaners, fertilizers, old gasoline and fuel mixes, insecticides, pesticides, pool chemicals, metal polishes, old chemistry sets, wood preservatives and more will be accepted for safe disposal in the most environmentally preferred manner.
Material that CANNOT be accepted include: explosives/ammunition, radioactive waste, medicines or medical waste, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, or any substance regulated by the US Drug Enforcement Administration. Residents are asked not to bring latex paint or used motor oil to the household hazardous waste collection because it can be effectively disposed at no cost by the homeowner.
Members of Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling, residents of sponsoring municipalities and employees of sponsoring corporations can dispose of their HHW at no cost. Non-members and non-residents may be charged up to $40 depending on the quantity of material to be disposed.
