It’s time once again to help Monongahela Valley Hospital paint the Valley pink for the 12th Annual MVH/Lois Orange Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Charleroi Market House, 423 McKean Ave., Charleroi.Last year’s walk raised $21,000 and attracted more than 450 participants.
Registration for the one- or two-mile fun walk begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. The event supports the prevention, early detection and treatment of breast cancer in our community at Monongahela Valley Hospital.
Walkers are asked to donate $10 to participate. Teams are welcome and participants are encouraged to wear pink. Prizes will be given.
“Over the past few years, we have been expanding the walk’s reach to include all of the areas in and surrounding the Mon Valley proper. Breast cancer is a prevalent disease and most of us know someone who has been affected by it,” said Melissa Marion, MVH director of Fund Development. “The funds will stay in the Valley, helping our families, friends and neighbors.”
The Breast Cancer Walk was created to honor the memory of Lois Orange Ducoeur, who lost her battle with cancer in 1965 at age 54. The Ducoeur family operated Orange’s Gift store and Ducoeur Furniture Store in Charleroi for 118 years.
