The Charleroi Rotary Club has had a busy summer. In June, President Steve Arnowitz and his wife Colleen attended the District 7330 conference in Greensburg. A highlight of the weekend was meeting David and Helen Ing who attended the conference as representatives for the President of Rotary International.
In July, the club welcomed Dr. Michael Rupert as its new president. Dr. Rupert announced that he had a fundraising project in mind and would provide details at a future meeting. He thanked Past President Arnowitz and the members of the club for their support.
On July 22nd, the club members hosted Laine Mosco and her parents Ray and Tracy Mosco. Laine is the 2015 recipient of the Charleroi Rotary Club’s scholarship. She will attend Penn State University and plans to major in Biochemistry.
On July 29th, the current District Governor Matthew Dowling visited and provided information about his involvement with Rotary. Matthew invited all members to continue to provide service through Rotary in whatever manner is needed in the community.
August brought programs regarding banners to honor veterans and preservation of historical buildings and artifacts in Charleroi. On August 5th, Ms Nancy Ellis noted that the Veterans Day Parade will be held in Charleroi this year. She is working with veteran organizations to have banners purchased and displayed in Charleroi in time for the parade. The members of the Rotary are interested and further discussions will take place in regards to this program.
On August 12th, Terry Neccai gave a presentation about historical buildings, areas, and artifacts in Charleroi. Terry is currently working with the borough to identify items for preservation and to document the process.
