On June 25, the Washington High School Band and Football team presented City Mission’s President and CEO, Dean Gartland, with a donation for the fire relief efforts.

Funds were collected for City Mission operations in the wake of a devastating fire that destroyed their kitchen and dining room and left three men’s dormitories, the Arbuckle Medical Clinic, and significant classroom space unusable for 6-9 months.

The students raised money by getting the entire community involved through sidewalk fundraising and bringing awareness of this issue.

Michelle Sperl of the Washington School Athletic Department helped to organize this fundraising effort and said, “We’re very happy to do it. Because the community does so much for us, we’re happy to give back.”

Dr. Roberta DiLorenzo, Superintendent, said their school’s theme is “together we make a difference” and the students are definitely accomplishing that!

“City Mission is very thankful to Washington School District for getting involved and helping bring more awareness to the community about the Mission’s needs, post-fire,” said Gartland. “I’m very proud of these students for their service to our community.”
