The Anglican Parish of Christ the Redeemer has opened a diaper pantry to serve WIC and SNAP cardholders.
One in three mothers suffer from diaper need. Diapers cost, on average per child, $18/week or $936/year, according to the National Diaper Bank Network. As a member of the National Diaper Bank, Christ the Redeemer is able to purchase diapers at a low cost and distribute them to needy parents. Food pantries do not distribute diapers.
The Canonsburg site is the only diaper pantry in Washington County. It hopes to serve residents of the South Hills, Bridgeville, Canonsburg, Cecil, Houston, Washington, and the Mon Valley. In addition to diapers, Redeemer's pantry will dispense wipes and creams as long as supplies last.
Distribution days will be held on the third Saturday of each month between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Upcoming dates are April 18, May 16, and June 20 at Christ the Redeemer Church, 120 E. College St., Canonsburg.
Recipients must show a WIC or SNAP card, photo ID, and a birth certificate for each child. For directions and questions, please call 724-745-0685.
