Washington County Deputy Prothonotary Joy Schury Ranko is seeking the democratic nomination of the office of Phyllis Matheny, Prothonotary, who will be retiring at the end of her term 2015.

Ranko, 55, of North Strabane grew up in Canonsburg. A graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, she is currently working in the prothonotary office with 13 years' experience. She is the daughter of Laverne Schury of Canonsburg and Charles Schury of Fredericktown. Married to her husband, Robert Ranko, Jr. of 32 years, they have two sons. She attends Miraculous Medal Church, where she is a member of the Christian Mothers and was a member of the former parish St. Genevieve Church, where she was a lectore.
Ranko is the current recording secretary of the Washington County Council of Democratic Women, where she was past president of four years and vice president of two years, and past treasurer of the ladies of the Elks Lodge 776. She and her husband spent 17 years volunteering at 84 youth baseball league in Eighty Four, PA.
Ranko has served on the safety committee for the Washington County Courthouse and has volunteered for the American Cancer Society. She and her husband owned and operated Second Time Around Furniture Store.
