Governor Tom Corbett released a list of Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) grants throughout the state; North Belle Vernon Borough's park upgrade project was the recipient of $159,000.
The grant will be used to renovate the park, and plans include a new soccer field, playground area, hockey court, new park pavilion and ADA-compliant accessibility. Local officials had been seeking the funds through the DCNR Community Conservation Partnership Program to rehab the park that has fallen into a state of disrepair.
"I want to first thank Governor Corbett for recognizing the importance of these parks for our smaller communities and providing the necessary programs to help make their visions become a reality," stated Senator Ward. "In addition, I want to commend the hard work of North Belle Vernon Councilman R.J. Sokol, who persistently worked to ensure that funding could be secured for this project. This park will be an asset to the community," concluded Ward.
