The League of Women Voters of Washington County alerts all voters that the Pennsylvania General Election is Tuesday, November 4. On Washington County ballots for this election are candidates for US Representative from Congressional Districts 9 and 18, Pennsylvania Governor and Lieutenant Governor, Pennsylvania Senate District 46 and Pennsylvania House Districts 15, 39, 40, 46, 48, 49, and 50.

Citizens who want to participate in this election must be registered 30 days before the election. The last day to register is Monday, October 6.

The League of Women Voters of Washington County is preparing its nonpartisan Voters Guide for the election. The guide will be available in Washington County papers in late October and will include information directly from candidates. The guide will also be on-line at http://washingtoncounty.palwv.org for voters to check at their convenience.

The LWV of Washington County has set the following policy for inclusion of candidates in the Voters Guide and other voter service activities. All candidates already on the ballot for the offices mentioned above will be included. Letters have already gone out to these candidates. Write-in candidates for the offices covered will be included if they give the League written notification by September 15 describing how they meet two or more of the following criteria: public or media announcement of candidacy; existence of a campaign committee; evidence of fund-raising or planned activity for campaign; appeal to a broad segment of the electorate; or evidence of significant voter interest and support. The burden of proof for meeting these criteria rests with the candidate. If candidates are accepted for inclusion in the Voters Guide, they will also be included in any other LWV voter service activities for their office.

Candidates planning write-in campaigns may apply for inclusion by contacting Judy Hughes at jh0709@comcast.net or 724-745-3111 before the deadline.

For those voters who are unable to go their polling place on November 4, absentee ballots may be requested. Enough time must be allowed to process the application, send the ballot, and receive it back from the voter. The completed absentee ballot application must be in the Election Office by Tuesday, October 24. Voters should apply as soon as possible in order to meet the deadline of receiving the actual absentee ballot and returning the voted ballot to the Election Office by 5 p.m. Friday, October 31.

To request a voter registration form or absentee ballot application, contact the Washington County Election Office at 724-228-6750. Forms are also available in some libraries. Remember to allow enough time before the deadline or else go directly to the Election Office in Courthouse Square, 100 West Beau Street, Suite 206 to fill out the form.

For any other questions, such as where to vote, call the Election Office or check the LWV of Washington County website, which will connect you to the websites that have this information.
