The Friends of the South Park Township Library will hold their first meeting of their new fiscal year Wednesday evening, September 24 at 7 p.m. in the township library. Members are asked to attend this meeting, which prepares for the pending fall sale. Meetings usually last approximately an hour and are held four times a year. New members are welcome to come to this meeting.

Every five years for the Friends is a milestone in their existence. The Friends will begin another 5- year milestone this coming October as they celebrate their 41st anniversary. It's been an amazing journey to this point with the many members its had over this number of years. The Friends hope to be able to continue in this vein with the help of its residents from South Park and surrounding areas.

The Friends have raised over $150,000 in this 40-year period. What an accomplishment for them with all of your help.

Residents and businesses are asked to join the "Friends" for another year of wonderful benefits arranged by the "Friends", through their two book sales, membership and fitness classes. All monies raised by the "Friends" go directly to our library.

They sponsor adult and children's programs, parties, classes, etc. throughout the year with monies earned besides providing more books for book collections in the library, which they support.

The "Friends" programs, which are held in the library or community room, are very well-attended, thanks to our library's wonderful adult program coordinator, Donna Neiport, children's librarian, Tami Pauline, and Jeff Connelly, who is responsible for teen programming.

This past year, the "Friends" were able to give $12,500 to the library, which is being used for library patrons for the rest of this year and into next year. Wonderful, exciting programs are in our library's agenda all the time.

Programs are open to anyone. Check the South Hills-Mon Valley Messenger each month to see what is on tap next for Finleyville.

Friends membership is $10 for an individual supporter; $15 for a family and $30 or more for a business. Lifetime membership is $500.

Membership forms can be picked up at the library on the "Friends" info stand or online at their web site.

Got to www.southparklibrary.org/spfriends.htm and find the membership page. Print out a form and fill it out completely.

Mail your form to: Friends of the South Park Library, 2575 Brownsville Rd., South Park, PA 15129.
