Children's Storytime
Children’s Storytime sessions resume on September 9 at Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center. They will be held on Mondays at 2:30 and 6 p.m. Also on Tuesday mornings at 11 a.m. and on the first Saturday of each month at 11 a.m.
"Crafternoons"
Wednesday Crafternoons are conducted in the upstairs Children’s Room each Wednesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. An elevator is available next to the circulation desk in the entrance area of the library.
Special events for September include a Puppet Show on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m., a Saturday Movie Matinee on Sept. 14 at 2 p.m., “Talk Like a Pirate Day” on Thursday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., “Mad Science – Mad Robots” on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m., a Saturday Movie Matinee on Sept. 28 at 2 p.m.
Sponsors and Donations Needed for Children's Storytime
Jill Godlewski, the Children’s Librarian, is looking for individuals, businesses and groups interested in helping to sponsor the various storytime and craft sessions held for the children. Contributions can be monetary or by providing supplies and snacks, or in the giving of time.
Sign Up for Your Library Card!
September is “Library Card Sign Up Month”. At the Library Gala last month, former State Representative Kathy Manderino, one of the honorees, challenged everyone to sign up for a free library card and use it, then donate back to the library the amount saved by not purchasing books, DVDs, CDs, etc. for personal use. Stop in for a free card today!
Databases, Archives and Local Records
The library offers newspaper archives, which is a database that contains the Valley Independent newspaper online and ancestry.com, which provides access to Census records, marriage and death records, city directories, and much more. These databases can only be used with computers at the library, as there is no remote access available at this time. Stop by the library to use these great genealogical resources!
E-Books / 3M Cloud Available
Monessen Public Library offers eBooks through the 3M Cloud Library. You can access the 3M Cloud Library and eBooks on the library website at www.monessenlibrary.org. To use the 3M Cloud Library you will need a library card and the 3M app downloaded to your reading device. If you have any questions about eBooks please contact the library at 724-684-4750.
Art Show - September 22
The Mon Valley Art Club will open their yearly art show at the library on the afternoon of Sunday, September 22. Refreshments will be served.
