Book Club Meeting
The Monongahela Area Library’s book club, "Book Bites", will meet over coffee, tea and light refreshments on Thursday, July 18 at 1 p.m. to discuss “The Showmaker’s Wife” by Adrianna Trigianni. The group has recently formed and new members from anywhere in the area are invited to join.
"Critter Cuties" Fundraiser - Photos of Your Pet for a Great Cause
The Monongahela Area Library’s Friends of the Library will hold their “Critter Cuties” fundraiser in Monongahela’s Chess Park on Saturday, July 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. This is the second summer the group has held the outdoor photo session (which will be moved to the library in the event of rain.)
The pictures will be taken by Chris Grilli of Grilli’s Studio in New Eagle. Packages available are one 8x10 photos and 8 wallet size pictures, or 2 5x7s and 8 wallets for $20. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations can be made by calling a member of the Friends, Sharon, at 724-258-8150 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the Monongahela Area Library.
Children's Programs
The Monongahela Area Library will host three special children’s programs during the month of July as part of the Summer Reading Program.
• Tuesday, July 9 at 6:00 p.m. magician Steve Haberman will amaze and amuse with his “Dig Into Reading” magic show. Space is limited so children must sign up in advance.
• Monday, July 15 at 6:00 p.m. A representative from the Animal Rescue League and Shelter will be at the library to showcase nature’s diggers. A special surprise animal will be the featured guest. Advance registration is requested for the program.
• Tuesday, July 23 at 1:00 p.m. the Westmoreland Museum of American Art will conduct an art activity for children at the library.
Preschooler Storytime
For preschoolers, Storytime is held each Wednesdays at 11 a.m. through July 24. A special Storytime will feature “Farmer Jenise” on July 17. An experienced children’s story teller and activity leader, the “farmer” will highlight this summer’s theme, “Dig Into Reading.”
Questyinz - Quest Club
Every Tuesday during the month the library will also hold Quest Club for children and families playing the Questyinz online reading game. Quest Club works through aspects of the game, offers and open studio for creation of Quest collages, or crafts potential new Quests for everyone to enjoy.
