Interested in a career in the natural gas industry, but unsure if it’s right for you? Why not test-drive your career through Douglas Education Center’s (DEC) Natural Gas Youth Program.
DEC is currently seeking out-of-school applicants for the launch of its new youth program, Introduction and Training in the Natural Gas and Oil Industries. This is a great opportunity to learn the basics of the booming natural gas industry! This short-term, 5-week, summer training program is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.
This unique opportunity will teach out-of-school youth real-world learning experiences such as industry terminology, safety, and various aspects important to a career in the natural gas and oilfield industries. Those who complete the course will receive a Certificate in SafeLand, which is a nationally recognized industry safety program.
The Youth Program is still accepting applicants. Out-of-school youth, 17-21 years of age, must meet income guidelines, be a Westmoreland or Fayette County resident, and attend classes regularly. Funding for DEC’s Youth Program is provided by the Westmoreland-Fayette WIB to support year-round youth mentoring activities. Those interested in exploring a career in the natural gas industry should consider this program. Participating students will develop the skills necessary to help increase their career marketability.
Classes begin Tuesday, July 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday through Friday until August 9. Those who attend class on a regular basis will receive a $20 gas card every day they attend class for the entire day. A $50 Wal-mart gift card will be given to those who have perfect attendance for the first 2.5 weeks. A second $50 Wal-mart gift card will be distributed to those who have perfect attendance for the second 2.5 weeks. Gas and gift cards will be distributed at the end of each week.
