June is the month for weddings and Oliver Miller Homestead in South Park is no different. Come see how our Colonial ancestors celebrated two different wedding events.

The first special event is a traditional wedding on Sunday, June 23 from 1:30 - 4:30 pm. Mrs. Mary Miller invites you to the wedding of her daughter, Mary Miller, to the son of Mr. and Mrs. Moses Wallace, William Wallace of Cross Creek. The second special event is a “shift wedding” between a widow and widower. Learn how the widow had to satisfy her dead husband’s debts before she could marry again.

Wedding activities for the happy couples will take place all afternoon and are different from present day ceremonies. See how the young bride was dressed compared to the widow.

The Oliver Miller Homestead is located on Stone Manse Drive, just off the circle on Corrigan Drive in South Park. It is open each Sunday from May 5 through December 8 from 1:30 until 4:30, with last admission at 4:00. Admission on Special Event Days is $2 while on nonevent days an admission of $1 is requested. For more information, visit the website at www.olivermiller.org or phone 412-835-1554.
