Student Government Day for senior students of Charleroi Area School District was held on Friday, April 19, and was sponsored by the Charleroi Borough. Students spent the day at the borough and assumed the positions necessary to govern the borough and to take the responsibilities of various borough departments.

The day began with a welcome by Mayor Nancy Ellis and Borough officials, an introduction of student officials and a mock council meeting. Teacher sponsors accompanying the students were Mr. Joe Grodz and Mr. Martin Matyas.
The students and their government positions were as follows: Luke Simpson, Mayor; Mitchell Woytovich, Chief of Police; Joseph Bradshaw and Matthew Carcella, Police Patrolmen; Ian Whiten, Fire Chief; Dominic Sero, Code Enforcement Officer, Mark McFeely, Ryan Pfrogner, Lainna Garrow, Taylor Smith, Steve Iacovino, Logan Jacobs, Brennan DiPiazza, Darien Liberatore, and Ethan Piot, Council Members; William Goodwin, Brandi Duvuvei, and Jessica Merando, County Commissioners.
The students were invited to a luncheon which was sponsored by the Borough Council, American Legion Post #22, and Charleroi Federal Bank. The luncheon took place at the American Legion Post with Frank Paterra serving as Master of Ceremonies. Charleroi Mayor, Nancy Ellis, introduced the following officials of Washington County who were in attendance, such as Pete Daley, Pennsylvania State Representative; Diana Irey-Vaughn, County Commissioner; Sam Ramano, Sheriff: Mike Namie, Controller; Debbie Bardello, Recorder of Deeds; and Gene Vittone, District Attorney.
The day was very successful and an excellent learning experience for the students.
