The Greater Monessen Historical Society will co-sponsor a re-creation of an old fashioned May Day celebration at Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center on Saturday, May 4 at 12:00 noon.
There will be a May Queen and court, along with a procession to the May pole in the lot where the former Manos Theatre was located, next to the library. May crafts will be created using flower garlands. The event is open to children of all ages, who wish to step back in time to the era of great-grandmother. Light refreshments will be served. May pole festivals were popular spring activities in the first half of the twentieth century that were observed by schools and churches.
