I am a 1995 graduate of Bethel Park High School. Upon graduation, I moved with my parents to Eighty Four, PA, and attended Washington Jefferson College. I graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. I then obtained my Law Degree from the Dickinson School of Law of the Penn State University in 2002. While attending Dickinson, I studied International Law and Global Intellectual Property Law at the University of Florence, Italy. Upon graduation from Law School, I immediately began a judicial clerkship in the Court of Common Pleas of Washington County. In May of 2004, I joined the firm of Blackwell & Associates.
My extensive practice consists of Criminal Defense, Family Law, Personal Injury, Construction Litigation, Juvenile Delinquency, Juvenile Dependency, and also maintain a general civil practice. Since entering private practice in 2004, I have defended over 500 criminal cases personally and I have assisted in over 500 more in the Court of Common Pleas. I have also handled countless criminal cases at the Magisterial District Judge level. I have also personally litigated over 100 Divorce cases and over 100 Custody cases. I have extensive experience handling Protection From Abuse cases. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity of appearing before countless Judges in the County Courts of Washington, Greene, Allegheny, Westmoreland and Fayette. My experience is not limited to the County Courts. I have also appeared in Federal Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania litigating serious criminal issues. I have filed and successfully argued numerous appeals in the Superior Court of Pennsylvania resulting in the errors of the lower court being corrected.
In my career I have prided myself in taking the time to understand each individual client’s issue. Whether it was a minor traffic citation or a multi-million dollar divorce, each one of my clients deserved and received my utmost attention. Regardless of the seriousness of the issue, it was recognized that each case has significantly impacted that individual’s life. This same premise should be applied by a Judge. All litigants need to be treated fairly and impartially, which should be the very foundation of our judicial system.
As the son of a former FBI Agent and Federal Prosecutor, I grew up understanding and respecting the law. This premise was further instilled by my Mother, as well as the values of honesty and compassion. My wife and I continue to instill the same values in our children.
I am a member of both the Washington County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. I am actively involved with the Member Relations Committee and the Young Lawyers Division of the Washington County Bar Association. I am a member of the Family Law Section and the Criminal Law Section. Because of my experience, I am ready, willing and able to handle any areas of the law and any other judicial assignments bestowed upon me.
I live with my wife, Karen, and my two sons, Alex and Ryan, in South Strabane Township.
