The April meeting of the Mid-Mon Valley Shipmates was called to order by Commander Bill Hess and after the playing of the Navy Hymn, George Diehl gave the opening prayer and Ron DeWalt led the group with the pledge to the flag.

Roll call was taken and all present except Treasurer Joseph Acton, Chaplain Rev. Fred Pfeil and Master-at-Arms Carl Pro. The minutes of the March meeting was read by Yeoman James Caldwell and approved. Exec Officer Barry Anders gave the financial report for Treasurer Joe Acton, who is still recuperating at home, and the report was approved as read.

Hess commended the members for their attendance and participation at the funeral service that was recently held for John Manges. He reminded the group that the Two-Bell service is available for any deceased Navy, Coast Guard or Merchant Marine veteran, active, reserves and/or retired sailor, and does not have to be a member of the Shipmates. Please inform the funeral director that you wish to have the Two Bell Services conducted for you and they will get in touch with the Shipmates. Hess also reported that the conversion to the summer uniform will be effective on May 1st.

Other items covered during the meeting were as follows:

• Thank you card was received from the Coulter families for the donation made to the Tener Library in memory of Shipmate James Coulter.

• Chairperson Noel Sawyer has been admitted to Monongahela Valley Hospital and Hess took over the phone relay calls for the time being. Speedy recovery extended to Noel.

• Memorial Day parade is supposedly set for May 27, in Monongahela. Final report to be given at the May meeting.

• Marshall Lignian reported that the Flag Committee has presented the Flag Program to 31 schools and 3 additional school are on the list. This is 8 more schools as compared to last year. To date, over 2900 students and 300 adults have participated in the program.

• It was reported that Shipmate Elmer Truskey had a serious house fire this past month: Myron Sepitko is recuperating at home: Joe Acton hopes to be at the meeting next month: and Rocky Johnson sent his regards to the shipmates.

• Anders reported that Scott Frederick will be a speaker at the May meeting. Scott is a History Scholar and will be giving us historical facts that should be of interest to all. Please plan to attend and welcome Scott.

• Essey reported he got a e-mail reply from Shipmate Harry Scholar from Florida, thanking the members for accepting him as a member, even though he's from FL.

• Sick List – Myron Sepitko, Noel Sawyer, Harry Spaziani, Joe Acton, James Bath, John Cooper, Ken Drummond, Rocky Johnson, Perry Schwartz, Sally Stephenson, Rich Walters and Joe Zywann. Please keep these veterans in your prayers.

• Half the take was won by Hess. The dismissal prayer was given by George Diehl and the meeting was adjourned until the next meeting on May 7, 2013. At the conclusion of the meeting, refreshments were served and a fellowship hour held.
