Satisfyingly simple, a cup of homemade soup can awaken warm culinary memories or provide a new delicious experience for your taste buds.
For their Soup Take Out fundraiser on March 13, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God are offering homemade wedding soup, ham and bean soup, or New England clam chowder. A quart of soup is only $5 and includes two dinner rolls. Orders must be placed by Thursday, March 7 by calling 412-885-7232. Soup orders can be picked-up on Wednesday, March 13 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Sisters' Motherhouse, located at 3603 McRoberts Road in the South Hills.

The Sisters host monthly takes outs throughout the year, where patrons are offered several homemade selections. Using fresh ingredients, Motherhouse Chef Doug Brannock prepares healthier versions of soup by omitting additional salt. Wedding, their most popular soup, is always offered along with rotating selections that include chicken noodle, broccoli, potato, vegetable lentil, chicken and dumpling, and acorn squash, as well as other seasonal soups, haluski, and chili.

Soup patrons looking for unique gifts may visit the Sisters' Gift Shoppe, which is open during take out pick-up. Items offered include jewelry and accessories, Steelers-themed gifts, baby items, holiday decorations, kitchen accessories, and the famous hand crocheted "scrubbers."

Franciscan Blend fair trade coffee is also available at the Motherhouse. Franciscan Blend is $9.99 for a 12oz bag. Options include regular, chocolate-cherry, hazelnut and French vanilla. Decaffeinated versions of the regular and hazelnut are also available. All proceeds from soup, coffee, and craft sales benefit the Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God.
