The long stretch of subfreezing nights caused driving headaches throughout the state, and Union Township had its share of mishaps.

Those days when temperatures rose above freezing followed by nights with temperatures in the teens made morning commutes hazardous. Keeping the township’s roads passable became a challenge. Road Department Manager Ed Frye reports that over 1,000 tons of road salt has been spread on Union Township roads so far this winter.

know all too well that catching a front tire in the piles of snow along the berm can pull a car right off the road into deeper snow. No matter how well road crews have done their job and how carefully you drive, sometimes winter roads pull vehicles into slippery situations. But then, spring is just around the corner—the groundhog said so.
