Since beginning his service as state representative, Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington) has recognized the importance of ensuring young people are engaged in both government and growth in the area. Through his Student Advisor Initiative, Cook aims to keep young people in the region after their academic careers.

Two students from each school district serve on the advisory council. They are charged with identifying assets, attractions and activities within the boundaries of each school district and community and presenting their findings to the representative and staff. In 2025 alone, Cook has already visited seven of the 10 school districts in the 50th District and hopes to visit the rest as soon as possible.

“Our young people are our biggest asset to grow our communities, and our student advisor program gives them the opportunity to work with their own generation to grow the 50th into a region they are proud to call home,” Cook said. “I am thrilled with the input and the hard work of our students to make this program a success.”

The 50th Legislative District is composed of the following school districts: Bentworth, Bethlehem-Center, Brownsville Area, California Area, Carmichaels Area, Central Greene, Charleroi, Jefferson-Morgan, Southeastern Greene and West Greene.

Students interested in being involved in the Student Advisor Initiative may contact Cook’s office at 724-929-2660.
