Rep. Bud Cook (R-Washington/Fayette) announced that Charleroi Borough has been awarded a grant totaling $45,000 from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).

Offered specifically for financially distressed communities, these funds are being provided through the DCED’s Early Intervention Program (EIP) to allow Charleroi Borough to hire financial consultants to help develop and implement a five-year financial management plan and strategy.

“First and foremost, implementing this Early Intervention Program will not take budgeting power away from elected borough officials, punish them for past budgetary decisions or otherwise sacrifice local sovereignty,” said Cook. “Instead, it will provide them with the fundamental financial tools necessary to cooperatively build a solid economic foundation that will benefit local families and our region’s job creators for years to come.”
