For five decades, Dr. Weaver gave private voice lessons, taught at the high school (Ringgold) level, collegiate level (CCAC) and led church choirs in Brownsville, Elizabeth and Monongahela. Dr. Weaver, affectionately called "Buck" in his hometown of Monongahela taught thousands of students over the decades.
Former student Paul Spencer Adkins, opera singer who was a student of Dr. Weaver's, said, "He came out to show that singing was macho." Mr. Adkins was taught and mentored by Dr. Weaver and went on to sing professionally. Adkins' music is featured on several albums.
As a tribute to Dr. Weaver who passed on in 2016, the organizers of the Monongahela Area 250 event are putting out a call to locate Dr. Weaver's former students so they may come together to sing in a Memorial Tribute Chorale on Saturday, August 10, 2019.
In addition to the Dr. Walter Weaver Memorial Chorale, the concert will feature selections by Monongahela High School graduates Paul Spencer Adkins, concert pianist Henry Venanzi and composer Jay Chattaway.
Anyone knowing of any former students of Dr. Weavers are asked to contact concert organizer Martha Muniz at 724-454-5238. Concert details for the public will be forthcoming.
