Heavy Rains Taking a Toll on Montour Trail
Heavy rain events on June 10 and 20 and flooding in the Peters Creek watershed caused trail damage in South Park Township and between Large and Clairton estimated at over $100,000. With damage from rains during the winter and spring of 2018, the Montour Trail Council is looking at reconstruction costs approaching $140,000.

This photo shows a section of washed out pavement near milepost 45.5. Approximately 750 additional feet of asphalt between Large and Clairton will require repaving at an estimated cost of $65,000.
A Go Fund Me (https://www.gofundme.com/montour-trail-flood-damage) has been set up to help with the costs of the repairs.
Monthly Work Party on August 11
The South Hills Friends of the Montour Trail monthly work party will be held on Saturday, August 11. Volunteers will meet at the South Park waste water treatment plant (trail MP 37.8, Piney Fork Road) at 9:00 AM. This month’s project has not yet been determined, but individuals interested in volunteering may contact info@montourtrail.org for more information concerning the current month’s maintenance activities.
South Hills Friends of the Montour Trail Meeting
The next meeting of the South Hills Friends of the Montour Trail will be held on August 14, 2018 at 6:30 PM at the South Park Township Library located at 2675 Brownsville Road, South Park, PA.
The South Hills Friends are responsible for maintenance of the Montour Trail between Library and Clairton. Individuals interested in the Montour Trail are encouraged to attend.
